Indemnity health insurance is usually much more affordable than major medical health insurance because the benefits and the amounts covered by the carriers are more rigidly defined and usually limited to smaller dollar amounts.

An indemnity plan reimburses the policy holder for medical expenses regardless of where or who performs the medical service.  Typically the plans pay a specific dollar amount for each type of service.  For example, a plan might pay $75 dollars for a doctors visit and $400 a day for hospital confinement.  An indemnity is a sum of money paid by one party (insurance company) for a particular loss suffered by another party (insured). 

Indemnity medical plans are often a good fit for employers on tight budgets and/or situation where the average wage of employees is to low to generate participation in a major medical group plan.
